Plug with a high expansion ratio for isolating the pipe space in cases where the descent of the bridge plug is complicated by a decrease in the passage diameter of the string
It is typically run on wireline, slickline, or tubing and is set mechanically or hydraulically, depending on the application. Extra range bridge plug is a special plug for running through restrictions and then safely installing in a larger diameter.

To perform plug and abandonment (P&A) of a salt well by installing a bridge plug at the designated target depth. The operation required overcoming wellbore restrictions and setting the plug in a larger internal diameter section while ensuring safe isolation under existing wellhead pressure conditions.
The extra reach cast-iron bridge plug (ERCI) was selected to address wellbore restrictions and enable accurate placement at depth. The system was deployed using a hydraulic setting tool (HST) with the necessary crossovers. Controlled pressure application via coiled tubing allowed for successful setting of the plug despite challenging downhole conditions, including pre-existing well pressure and potential obstructions.
The HST with ERCI plug was assembled with the required crossovers and connected to the coiled tubing. The assembly was run in hole to the target depth of 1,870 m at a controlled speed.
The plug was set using a three-step pressure sequence via coiled tubing. Successful setting was confirmed by pressure drop and release from the HST.
The plug was tagged at 1,870 m with 2,000 lbf and verified through inflow testing, holding up to 50 bar as expected.
The operation concluded with successful placement, enabling continuation of cementing operations.
